Beyond The Guides

Reading is useful. Having someone do it is faster.

If a guide raises more questions than it answers, that’s normal, every business’s context is different. See the business challenges we help solve, the full range of services we offer, or take the readiness questionnaire for a quick read on where to focus first.

Cross-Guide Snapshot

One Real Number From Each Guide, Right Now

Four guides, four different parts of the business. If you only have a minute, this is the one fact from each worth knowing before you pick where to start.

GuideWorth knowing right now
Data DiscoveryGoogle reversed Chrome’s cookie deprecation in April 2025 and shut down most of the replacement Privacy Sandbox APIs in October 2025. Identity strategy built around that roadmap needs a genuine rework, not a pause.
Marketing MarvelsThe gap between a martech platform’s year-one and year-two cost is where most budgets quietly blow out, training, premium support and data overages rarely stay included past the first renewal.
Media MasteryA retail media partner’s willingness to run a genuine holdout test, not just report correlation as if it were causation, is the single most informative question you can ask before committing spend.
Monetization MagicMore demand partners doesn’t reliably mean more revenue. The median publisher now runs 19 SSPs, up from 14, without a matching gain in yield efficiency.
Worked Example

How The Guides Actually Connect: A Retail Media Launch

The four guides read as separate categories, but a real project usually pulls from three or four of them at once. Here’s what that looks like for a single, common scenario: standing up a new retail media partnership from scratch.

StageWhich guide, and why
Deciding if the partner’s numbers can be trustedMedia Mastery: vetting methodology and fee structure before spend commits
Working out what data you’re actually allowed to combineData Discovery: whether a CDP is genuinely needed to activate the partnership’s data
Deciding whether to build the campaign in-house or via an SPO-managed pathMarketing Marvels: the martech investment case for any new platform layer
Making sure your own inventory pricing doesn’t undercut the dealMonetization Magic: yield configuration on the publisher side of the relationship

Most projects worth doing touch more than one guide. Starting from “who am I” is a fine entry point, but the real work usually ends up crossing into two or three categories before it’s done.

Patterns We Keep Seeing

The Same Three Mistakes Show Up In Every Guide

Different topics, same underlying failure modes. Worth checking against your own situation regardless of which guide brought you here.

  • Treating a platform’s roadmap as fixed. Shows up in identity strategy (the Privacy Sandbox reversal), in martech renewals (a vendor’s pricing model changing after lock-in), and in retail media (a partner’s measurement methodology shifting without notice).
  • Reading an aggregate industry benchmark as a personal guarantee. Industry-wide improvement in programmatic waste or attribution accuracy says nothing about whether your specific setup is actually above or below that average.
  • Assuming more inputs means more capability. More SSPs, more martech tools, more data sources, none of it reliably improves outcomes without someone accountable for making the additions work together.

Common Questions

What people ask us

What type of resources do The Media Guides provide?

Practical, how-to content on programmatic advertising, MarTech and AdTech strategy, retail media, and data governance, built from real projects, not desk research.

Who creates the content in The Media Guides Resource Centre?

Tim Lloyd and the wider Media Guides team, drawing on hands-on experience across Domain, eBay and Insurance Australia Group. Every guide is grounded in work we’ve actually done, not generic industry commentary.

I’ve read a few guides, what’s the fastest way to get direct help instead?

Skip straight to it. See our full range of services, or get in touch and we’ll tell you what applies to your situation specifically, no need to piece it together from articles yourself.

How do I compare the tools and platforms mentioned in these guides?

Head to our Tech & Services Comparison hub, a curated, category-filtered breakdown of MarTech, AI and adtech platforms, built on the same evaluation criteria we use with clients.

Are the insights relevant for both advertisers and publishers?

Yes. Advertisers will find guidance on campaign efficiency and data use, while publishers and retailers get coverage of yield optimisation, monetisation and platform setup.

Can these guides replace working with a consultant?

They’ll get you further than most generic content, but a guide can’t account for your specific stack, budget or constraints, that’s the part a conversation solves. Book a free consultation if you want the tailored version rather than the general one.

Can I suggest a topic or request a guide?

Yes, get in touch with what you’d like covered. It’s also a good way to start a conversation if what you actually need is more specific than a public guide could cover anyway.

Do you offer downloadable resources or templates?

Select articles include templates, checklists or planning frameworks to help you apply what you’ve read. For anything more tailored to your business, that’s a conversation rather than a download, reach out directly.
