Growth and transformation leadership, built on 15 years inside the businesses you’re trying to compete with.
The Media Guides was established by Tim Lloyd, a Sydney-based commercial and transformation leader with 15 years’ experience spanning MarTech, AdTech, data and AI governance, and enterprise-scale operating-model change – including Domain, eBay and Insurance Australia Group.
What started as a way for Tim to keep exploring digital media technology in a fast-moving industry has grown into a practice bridging commercial growth, MarTech and regulated data and AI governance – the last delivered in partnership with FMA Consulting.
Enterprise transformation experience, applied commercially.
The Media Guides brings deep, hands-on experience across property, automotive, general marketplaces, and financial services and insurance — including leading operating-model transformation and organisational readiness inside Australia’s largest general insurer, and building Domain’s Audience Extension product into a multi-million dollar acquisition engine.
Our strength lies in bridging strategy with execution – implementing and scaling MarTech, AdTech and enterprise software infrastructure in production, not just advising on it from the outside.

Four things that shape every engagement
Good strategy creates options
A roadmap that locks you into one bet before you’ve tested it isn’t strategy, it’s a guess with better formatting. The plan should leave room to change course as the market moves.
Growth has to be commercially sustainable
A revenue line that only works with unlimited paid spend behind it isn’t a growth strategy, it’s a subsidy. Gumtree Ad Manager built its first qualified SMB pipeline without a paid media budget at all.
Transformation only works if people adopt it
The part of the IAG operating model that actually mattered wasn’t the org chart, it was whether the people running the program used it day to day. Governance that sits in a deck doesn’t count.
AI should solve a business problem before it creates one
Most AI use cases fail the moment they meet compliance, not the moment they meet the customer. Get the governance right first, delivered in partnership with FMA Consulting where that depth matters most.

What sets The Media Guides apart from other digital consultancies?
The Media Guides combines deep industry knowledge with hands-on commercial, MarTech, AdTech and enterprise transformation experience — including regulated FSI environments most consultancies don’t have direct exposure to. Founder Tim Lloyd brings a proven track record leading digital transformation and go-to-market initiatives across property, automotive, general marketplaces, and financial services and insurance. Clients get strategic thinking informed by real-world execution, not just a slide deck.
What is Tim’s experience in programmatic and data-driven marketing?
Tim has led major transformation projects for enterprise brands over a 15-year career, developing and implementing solutions that integrate customer journey-based segments, data-led insights, and governance with sell-side and buy-side programmatic technologies. He’s overseen multimillion-dollar campaigns across display, video and social channels, and specialises in optimising yield, reducing tech tax, and improving ROAS through data-informed buying strategies.
Has Tim worked with major brands?
Yes. Tim has held senior leadership roles across some of Australia’s most iconic brands and media companies, including Domain, eBay and Insurance Australia Group. He’s delivered measurable outcomes in complex environments — whether driving product strategy for digital publishers, overseeing retail media operations, or leading operating-model transformation inside a major insurer.
Do you work with financial services and insurance organisations specifically?
Yes — this is one of our core areas of depth, not a generalist add-on. We’ve led organisational readiness and operating-model transformation inside Australia’s largest general insurer, including governance frameworks, AI use case evaluation and cross-functional delivery at enterprise scale.
What types of businesses can benefit from The Media Guides’ expertise?
The Media Guides supports publishers, brands, agencies, technology partners and regulated financial services and insurance organisations. Whether you’re a media owner optimising your MarTech stack, a CMO refining growth strategy, or an FSI business navigating AI governance and operating-model change, we tailor solutions to your commercial objectives and technical realities.
Do The Media Guides offer hands-on implementation or just strategic consulting?
Both. We pride ourselves on bridging strategy and execution. Our engagements often involve auditing current systems, refining commercial models, and then rolling up our sleeves to implement new MarTech, AdTech, data infrastructure or revenue operations end to end.
How do The Media Guides approach digital transformation projects?
We apply a phased, measurable approach — starting with current-state analysis and stakeholder alignment, followed by roadmapping, pilot programs, and full-scale deployment. Tim has led both rapid-turn and long-horizon transformation projects, particularly in data integration, MarTech/AdTech consolidation, and operating-model design.
What role does data governance and AI play in your media solutions?
Data governance, privacy compliance and responsible AI adoption are core to how we design media and audience solutions — delivered in partnership with FMA Consulting, a dedicated privacy and AI governance advisory. Together we help organisations navigate evolving Australian privacy regulation and AI accountability while keeping operations transparent and commercially effective.
Can The Media Guides support media M&A and commercial due diligence?
Yes. With direct experience supporting commercial due diligence, media M&A and post-acquisition integration, we offer insight into market positioning, revenue modelling and audience monetisation strategies across complex, multi-stakeholder transactions.
Is The Media Guides involved in retail media and marketplace strategy?
Absolutely. Retail media and general marketplaces are core specialisations — Tim has helped enable self-serve advertising and retail media products for SMB sellers at scale, from on-site display and sponsored listings to programmatic and shopper marketing. We support platform selection, partner strategy and operational setup.
